UK charities have launched emergency appeals to help the thousands of people left wounded and homeless by the earthquake in Haiti.

The public is being asked to donate money to help provide clean water, shelter and medical help to people affected in the Caribbean country, described as one of the poorest on earth.

You can donate money now through the Disasters Emergency Committee.

The donation line is 0370 60 60 900 and website is dec.org.uk

The money raised will support the efforts of the DEC’s members which are the major UK aid agencies.

Haiti charity single

Another way to raise money to help those affected by the disaster in Haiti is to buy the new charity single, a cover of REM's Everybody Hurts. It sees Robbie Williams, Take That, Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole, Mika, Michael Buble, James Morrison, Alexandra Burke, Susan Boyle, Aston Merrygold, Marvin HumesX Factor winner Joe McElderry, Miley Cyrus, James Blunt, and Jon Bon Jovi.Kylie Minogue and Westlife perform.

The single will split all proceeds 50/50 between the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) and The Sun newspaper's Helping Haiti appeal. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has pledged to waive VAT on the song.

The track will be available to download on February 7 and can be bought in shops on February 8.
