Eleanor Noakes

Why should listeners tune in to you?
To find out the latest on what’s going on in Yorkshire and beyond.
How did you get into radio?
I did a Masters in Broadcast Journalism as well as lots of work experience in various newsrooms and radio stations across the country.
What does the role of a news reader involve?
It’s not all about reading the news but writing it, finding it, investigating things and going out and about reporting.
Why is news so important?
Knowing what’s going on around us is really important as it makes us better prepared to deal with things, informed and gives us stuff to chat about.
What’s the best thing about working for Real Radio?
Getting the opportunity to work on news features and documentaries as well as doing reporting and reading shifts.
Tell us one thing your listeners would not know about you?
That I went to school with the new Doctor Who. I also went to school with the singer James Morrison but he was called James Catchpole back then.
What do you do when you’re not reading the news?
Dash around in the news car interviewing people, research news items and write up stories.
What do you do when you’re not at work?
Go for drinks with friends, jog round the park and shop for bargains at Primarni.
If you weren’t a news reader, what do you think you would be doing?
Probably a solicitor, I did a degree in Law before I decided to get into Journalism.
If a film was made of your life which actor should play you?
That’s a hard one, actresses are generally taller than 5ft! I’d probably pick Winona Ryder when she was in Heathers but before her shoplifting phase.
Outside of radio have you ever won an award for anything?
I won a fishing competition when I was about 12 and was given a shield by World Champion fisherman Bob Nudd.
What is your favourite song? (must be a song likely to be played on Real)
Anything by Kings of Leon, they’re ace!
What was the first record you ever bought?
Never Forget by Take That.
What’s the worst single you ever bought?
The worst single I’ve ever owned is one a boyfriend once bought me. ‘Who let the dogs out’ by the Baha Men.
