1.How did you get into radio? It was all a bit of a haze really. There I was having a great time playing my favourite records on University radio, listened to by aboutthree people when someone called me out of the blue and offered me a job on a station in Portsmouth playing my favourite records on the evening show. In those days, they were obviously desperate.
2.What’s the best thing about working at Real Radio? Playing great music and talking to the listeners every day. Hardly work. It’s fun really. If I win the lottery I always reckon I’ll not want to give up my job.
3.Describe your radio show in one sentence? The soundtrack to our lives.
4.As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up? Be a vet, but I hate seeing animals in pain. A photographer which I am and a musician which sadly I’m not. The next best thing though is playing great musicians on the radio.
5.What was the first record you ever bought? Donny Osmond – Alone Together. (Although, privately, I wish it was something cooler like T-Rex and Ride A White Swan)
6.If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? My terrible memory.
7.If a film was made of your life which actor do you think should play your character? Chandler Bing from Friends (played in character)
8.Outside of radio have you ever won an award/medal for anything and if so what? Numerous photography awards but I also won an Art Award when I was 10. I came second but remember it because the boy who came first signed his name to my work. His name was John Tonkin. There, now his awful secret is out!
9.Do you ever get recognised when you are out and about? No never. Well, I guess it’s just not credible that a Brad Pitt lookalike would be walking around in Yorkshire. (I wish)
10.What’s the latest song you’ve heard that you love and can’t stop listening to? Loving anything from a guy called John Legend right now.
