Snow and ice cause chaos

DRIVERS faced a nightmare journey into work today as snow, sleet and ice made many roads treacherous and paralysed traffic in northern parts of Greater Manchester.

Worst hit areas included Saddleworth, Oldham, parts of Blackley, Salford, Bolton, Bury and Rochdale, where many motorists were unable to get above more than 15-20mph because of the danger of skidding.
